LAKE
RESEARCH PARTNERS MAKES BIG CONTRIBUTION TO PROGRESSIVE WINS
WASHINGTON, DC (November,
8, 2006) -- Lake Research Partners (LRP), the prominent Democratic polling and
strategic research firm, is proud to have played a major role in the victories
of several key campaigns in the November elections.
Among the firm's clients
who defeated incumbents in upset wins were John Tester (defeating Conrad Burns
for US. Senate, Montana), Jerry McNerney (defeating Richard Pombo in CA 11) and
Tim Walz (defeating Gil Gutknect, MN 1). Other major winning national clients
included incumbent Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano, Michigan Senator Debbie
Stabenow, Wisconsin Congressman Ron Kind, and Sue Bell Cobb, the first woman
elected to the Alabama Supreme Court.
In addition to these candidate wins, LRP played a significant
role on the team working to defeat a constitutional amendment in Arizona that
would have made same-sex marriage, or government recognition of any other
relationship other than marriage, unconstitutional. While similar measures passed in seven other
states, Arizona's measure went down to defeat. This marks the first defeat of a
same-sex marriage ban in the nation.
Working with the Campaign
for Teen Safety, LRP also helped turn back efforts to erode a woman's right to
choose by helping to defeat California Proposition 85, the parental
notification measure. With a coalition of labor organizations, LRP's efforts
helped to increase the minimum wage through successful ballot measures in four
states. LRP also worked with the Humane
Society of the United States on winning statewide measures to protect animals
in Michigan and Arizona, and on several down ballot and legislative candidate
races to expand Democratic representation in several state legislatures.
Celinda Lake, President of LRP said, "We have a long
history of working for progressive change, and we are proud to have contributed
to the success of these clients and causes. We congratulate and commend
everyone who worked for change this year."
