CONGRESS SHOULD DO MORE TO HELP THE WORLD'S CHILDREN
WASHINGTON, DC (October 11, 2007) -Lake Research Partners is proud to have assisted the US Coalition for Child Survival in a recent survey exploring
Americans' attitudes towards child survival issues. The poll, which surveyed 1,025 Americans in August 2007, found that a majority of Americans say Congress should
be doing more to prevent unnecessary deaths among children in the world's poorest countries, citing child survival as an important international aid priority.
When given a list of possible threats to child survival, most Americans guess that HIV/AIDS and malaria are the top causes of death. In reality, neonatal complications, pneumonia,
malnutrition and diarrhea are the top determinants of death among children under five - all of which can be prevented with existing, cost-effective interventions.
