SPSS AND DATABASE PROGRAMMER

Washington, DC

Lake Research Partners seeks a highly dedicated, experienced programmer to help execute and modernize all aspects of data manipulation in a political environment. Position requires a candidate with an understanding of survey methodology, statistics and multivariate analysis, SPSS or similar statistical programming experience, and working knowledge of SQL databases. This position will assist the Director of Information Systems with innovations to data manipulation and other areas where computer technology serves our analysts and clients. Job Duties:

The successful candidate is able to fulfill the following responsibilities:

  • Program data output from simple cross-tabs to complicated multivariate analysis for use by analytical staff
  • Manipulate and prepare sample files for calling house vendors
  • Ensure that Lake Research Partners remains a leader in our field for Survey Methodology and data manipulation
  • Be an active student of the current state of survey methodology and modeling trends and drive innovation through the Programming Department outward to the entire firm
  • Assist in the training and learning of junior staff firm wide

The successful candidate will have the following professional and personal characteristics

  • Demonstrated experience on the leading edge of survey methodological practices, including up to date understanding of:
    • Statistical programming language (SPSS, SAS, STATA)
    • Statistical methods
    • SQL
    • IP networks
  • Preferably fluent in SPSS with proven statistical skills
  • Extremely detail and solution oriented, creative and innovative
  • Possesses the ability to juggle multiple projects in a fast paced environment
  • Has the ability to adopt academic research findings for use in a private polling firm with tight deadlines and limited budgets
  • Political campaign experience a plus
  • Knowledge of census data, voter files and election returns analysis a plus
